Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome Clinical Update

This program provides the most recent clinical information on Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) with the goals to improve recognition of the disease nationwide and to demonstrate how treatment should address both the pulmonary and the cardiovascular aspects of the deranged physiology of the disease. The course was originally a satellite broadcast in May 1999. Topics include: pathology and pathogenesis of HPS; clinical update; monitoring and therapy in the intensive care unit; diagnostic update; epidemiology; and ecology. MATERIALS: VHS videotape (2 hours) TARGET AUDIENCE: Physicians and nurses, especially those in rural areas, in primary care or internal medicine who evaluate patients in emergency rooms, and specialists in pulmonary and infectious diseases; epidemiologists; laboratorians; specialists in vector control and wildlife biology; and health educators.
