Anyone who turns on the TV knows that there are elections coming up this November. So we decided to look back on who we are as Americans, and put together easy facts and useful information for anyone who uses this election season as an opportunity to talk to children about our country. Check out Democracy in America, this month's Consumer Focus.

Champagne bottle with the cork popping off and two champagne glasses.On October 1,1994, when most people were asking the "World Wide what?," Pueblo.gsa.gov zoomed onto the information highway as one of the premiere government websites. Ten years and many changes later, Pueblo.gsa.gov remains one of the most comprehensive sources for consumer information. You can read, print out, or order hundreds of free or low-cost federal publications on a variety of consumer topics, such as eating right, staying healthy, and managing your money. Use this easy-to-navigate site to check for the latest scams and product recalls, catch-up on consumer news, and sign up for e-newsletters from Pueblo. You can even view our special publications or our catchy PSAs. Pueblo.gsa.gov really does have all the consumer information you need right at your fingertips, so there are lots of reasons to bookmark this site. Many common foods, such as milk, nuts, eggs, and seafood can cause allergies. If you suffer from food allergies, you probably want to know what you can do to avoid it. Checking out food labels is one way you can avoid harmful ingredients. Also, knowing the different names that the allergen may go by - cassein is a milk protein - can be very useful. Our new Consumer Focus: Tips for Avoiding Food Allergies can be a very helpful guide. It gives tips for managing allergies to specific foods and how to handle food allergies when you travel. Other resources for more information are also listed.

Or perhaps you suffered from nausea, vomiting and diarrhea? If so, you many have a food allergy. NIH estimates that about 5 million Americans suffer from a true food allergy, which can range from a simple intolerance to a certain food substance that causes a mild reaction to serious food allergies which involve the body's immune system and can be life threatening. If you want to learn more, check out our new Consumer Focus: The Basics of Food Allergies. You will learn what are the most common food allergens and how they are diagnosed and treated. There is also a list of resources for more information on food allergies.

It's almost September and you know what that means - back to school! Many students are heading off to colleges here and abroad. But they can become victims of a crime, even on campus. We have a slew of safety tips for students, including safety tips while studying abroad. So take a look at the Consumer Focus - Part 1: For College Students.
