POSITION: Research Soil Scientist/ Soil Chemist/Agricultural Engineer
LOCATION: Riverside, CA
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located in the Soil Physics & Pesticides
Research Unit, George E. Brown, Jr. Salinity Laboratory, Riverside, California.
The incumbent will (a) conduct controlled laboratory and outdoor experiments
to measure the VOC emissions from several widely-used pesticides applicable
to California’s interior valley agriculture, (b) measure the emission
of VOCs associated with pesticide use (i.e., carrier fluids, adjuvants,
etc.) that contribute to regional VOC loading, and (c) develop low-cost
methods to reduce emissions. Emissions will be determined using several
flux monitoring methods, including surface flux chambers and aboveground
sampling methods.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Soil Physics, Hydrology,
Soil Science, Soil Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering or a closely related
field is required. Knowledge of experimental methods appropriate for
highly volatile chemicals and ability to program and use data logging
equipment desirable.
