Career Development
Delivering the future for our employees
Our career development initiatives prepare our employees to achieve their goals and turn their career dreams into realities.

National Center for Employee Development
The National Center for Employee Development (NCED) is the U.S. Postal Service's national center for employee training. NCED oversees and conducts hands-on training for postal employees who manage and maintain major high-technology postal systems, vehicles, and mail processing equipment. Training offered at NCED supports postal automation efforts and national job skills training. NCED is a nationally recognized leader in the use of distance learning technology. NCED expands on its resident classrooms by using national networks for live satellite broadcasts, audio teletraining, and computer driven audiographics courses, plus computer, video, and internet technology to deliver critical job skill training to postal employees.

Associate Supervisor Program
The Associate Supervisor Program (ASP) is designed to attract. select, and train the best possible candidates for first-line supervisory positions. ASP will develop technical, operational, administrative, and leadership skills through its comprehensive classroom training and on-the-job assignments. Applicants who meet the requirements will learn the critical knowledge and skills necessary to become highly effective leaders of the U.S. Postal Service. ASP is a 16-week training program, combining classroom training and on-the-job assignments, to provide a practical hands-on experience. Coaching is an important aspect of the program. ASP trainees are assigned a coach who provides leadership and guidance throughout the program. If you like working with people, want to make a difference, and be associated with a winning team, then the supervisor position is the right job for you.

Career Management Program
The Career Management Program (CMP) prepares supervisors, managers, and postmasters for the future by providing them the skills and knowledge they need to guide employees and operations toward greater efficiency, continued improvement, and outstanding customer service. CMP is a training program that provides supervisory employees with a roadmap for continuous learning within the Postal Service. Course curricula cover skills and knowledge identified by the field as critical for effective supervision and management. The core components of the training are leadership/management, functional/administrative, and supporting curricula. Employees enter CMP by completing the managerial and functional enrollment guides with their manager to determine the skill areas they want to strengthen and initial course they should attend.

Advanced Leadership Program
The Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) was developed to assist the U.S. Postal Service in ensuring that a base of qualified and capable leaders is available for the next several years. ALP is aimed at experienced managers who exhibit high potential for increased levels of responsibility. Thus, a particular type of learner was anticipated for ALP and the program was designed consistent with those expectations. ALP provides the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary for participants to positively impact and support future postal management decisions and direction. The program seeks to develop a highly competent managerial base from which future organizational leadership will emerge.
