Secretary of State Colin L. Powell to Deliver Remarks to Teach Africa Youth Forum


Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will deliver remarks at the Teach Africa Youth Forum September 17, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the Department’s Dean Acheson Auditorium. The event, hosted by the Secretary’s Open Forum and the Bureau of African Affairs, will include approximately a thousand high school students from throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

The Forum, sponsored by The Africa Society of the National Summit on Africa and the World Affairs Council, promotes greater understanding of the role of Africa and its impact on the global community and the conduct of U.S. foreign relations and diplomacy. The daylong program will include a live session of the “It’s Academic,” a student quiz show hosted by Mac McGarry. The program also will include a series of interactive educational breakout sessions for the students, featuring prominent experts and speakers exploring topical issues.

PLEASE NOTE: Secretary Powell will deliver remarks at 10:30 a.m. Cameras must be in place before the start of program, which begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Pre-set times for cameras: 8:00 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance
Final access time for all press: 8:45 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance

Media representatives who plan to attend must present one of the following press credentials: (1) a U.S. government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on original letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
