About GSA
e-Tools Agency Asset Management System

The primary goal of the Agency Asset Management System (AAMS) is to simplify and improve internal screening of excess personal property for the federal activity. GSA has achieved this by:

  • Eliminating duplicate data entry;
  • Reducing paperwork;
  • Increasing federal agency reutilization; and
  • Eliminating the need for agency personal property systems development.

AAMS, a module of GSA's screening system, provides internal agency screening and redistribution of personal property to authorized agency users. The system was first developed in coordination with the Department of Energy (DOE). GSA has also worked with the Departments of Commerce and Veterans Affairs (VA) to customize AAMS modules for their needs.

Commerce and VA use AAMS to report, select, and transfer excess personal property exclusively within their agencies. At the end of their internal screening cycles, any property still available is either returned to the agency or is passed to the Federal Disposal System (FEDS).  Using FEDS, other federal and state agencies can locate available excess or surplus property and compete for it via GSAXcess®. For further information, contact Larry Olmstead at Commerce or Linnie Baker at VA.
