Enforces provisions of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure
Act (LMRDA) and related laws which establish basic standards of democracy and
fiscal responsibility for unions representing employees in private industry,
Federal government employees, and Postal Service employees. OLMS administers
provisions relating to electing union officers, safeguarding union funds and
assets, establishing and maintaining trusteeships, and reporting and disclosure
by unions, employers, labor relations consultants, union officers and employees,
and surety companies. OLMS also administers the Secretary of Labor’s statutory responsibilities for the Mass Transit Employee Protection Program under Section 5333(b) of the Federal Mass Transit Act, commonly referred to as the Section 13(c) program.
