Ship Operations Program Description The Ship Operations Program funds the operation and maintenance of research vessels and submersibles used by NSF-funded scientists. This includes crew and marine staff salaries; maintenance, overhaul, and repair; direct operating costs such as fuel, food, and supplies; shore facility costs directly related to ship operations; and indirect costs. The University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) schedules the use of these facilities as well as expeditionary programs. These large and expensive shared-use facilities aid NSF-funded research and training of oceanographers. Examples of shared use facilities scheduled by UNOLS include ships, submersibles, shipboard equipment, and instruments to collect and analyze data. To schedule ship time on the UNOLS fleet, use the electronic Ship Time Request Form available on the UNOLS website. Target Dates and Deadlines Proposals due 1 October
