LOCATION.--Lat 46° 09'03", long 115° 35'14"(revised), in SW1/4 SW1/4 SE1/4 sec.33,
T.33 N., R.7 E., Idaho County, Clearwater National Forest, Hydrologic Unit 17060303,
on right bank, 0.7 mi upstream from Lowell, 0.9 mi upstream from confluence with
Selway River, 1.2 mi downstream from Pete King Creek, and 19 mi east of Kooskia.
DRAINAGE AREA.--1,180 mi2, approximately. Mean elevation, 5,250 ft.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--October 1910 to September 1912, October 1929 to current year.
Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1317.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,452.98 ft above NGVD of 1929.
Prior to Nov. 21, 1930, nonrecording gages at site 1 mi upstream at different datums.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 35,100 ft3/s June 8, 1964,
gage height, 13.50 ft, from rating curve extended above 17,000 ft3/s;
minimum, probably less than 100 ft3/s Jan. 8, 1937, during period of ice effect.
NOTE TO WHITEWATER RAFTERS:
This stage reading is from the USGS gaging station 0.7 miles upstream from
Lowell bridge, and it reads between 2-3 feet higher than the stage
reading on the staff gage at Lowell bridge, depending on the river stage.
