Information on the 2004 Sigma Xi National Meeting

We hope to see a delegate from your chapter at the upcoming Sigma Xi meeting, scheduled for November 11-14, 2004 in Montreal, Quebec at the Le Centre Sheraton Hotel . This email contains a few highlights about the meeting. ANNUAL MEETING, November 11-14: This year's Annual Meeting will be an opportunity to:

• hear scientific talks,
• learn strategies for successful chapter operations,
• meet highly motivated undergraduate researchers,
• discuss issues that impact the health of the research enterprise,
• take part in the governance of the Society,
• present research or chapter posters and
• be inspired and entertained.

Highlights this year include opportunities to serve as judges for the Student Research Conference, time to network with colleagues and musical entertainment each night of the meeting. A schedule is available at http://sigmaxi.org/meetings/annual/program.shtml

STUDENT RESEARCH CONFERENCE, November 12-13: The Student Research Conference offers undergraduate students an opportunity to present their research at an international science meeting, attend workshops and lectures by leading scientists, spend time with Sigma Xi members and network with graduate school and employment recruiters. Chapters are encouraged to announce the conference to undergraduates. Deadline to register for the Student Research Conference is September 30, 2004. PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS, November 11: This year there are two full-day pre-conference workshops delegates, members and the public can attend.

• Canadian/International Northeast Symposium (CINES): This symposium will celebrate the Rutherford-Soddy Centennial and the Solar Neutrino Discovery. http://sigmaxi.org/meetings/annual/cines.shtml
• Professional Career Pathways Workshop: Early career scientists have many career options available to them besides academia, but there are few opportunities for individuals to explore these opportunities. This workshop will provide a unique forum for exploring the exciting and diverse career options available to early career scientists. http://sigmaxi.org/meetings/annual/career.shtml
