FRIDAY, Oct. 29 (HealthDayNews) -- A single-dose epidural injection called DepoDur is safe and effective in treating postoperative pain, according to two clinical trials. One trial included 487 people undergoing abdominal surgery and the other trial included 164 people undergoing knee-replacement surgery. The studies concluded that a single shot of the morphine sulfate drug can provide effective pain relief for 48 hours when given before or during surgery. The results were presented Oct. 26 at the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists in Las Vegas. DepoDur was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration earlier this year and will be commercially available by the end of the year.
