About the NIH Almanac

Published annually, the NIH Almanac contains pertinent facts about the National Institutes of Health - the Federal government's principal medical research agency. As of December 1, 2001, NIH was composed of 27 Institutes and Centers. Of these, 24 receive direct appropriations from the U.S. Congress to award research grants and support scientific programs. The remaining three include the Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center (clinicalcenter.nih.gov/) - a combined research hospital and laboratory complex on the NIH campus - the Center for Scientific Review (www.csr.nih.gov), which supports the scientific review of grant applications, and the Center for Information Technology (www.cit.nih.gov), which provides, coordinates, and manages information technology for the NIH.
