Recurrent Stroke Prevention Guidelines
According to National Stroke Association (NSA), of the 750,000 strokes per year, more than 100,000 are recurrent strokes.
NSA further estimates there is up to a 14% increased risk of recurrent stroke within one year and up to a 40% increased risk within 5 years of the initial stroke.
Researchers predict 1 in 5 recurrent strokes each year can be prevented.
To help doctors prevent recurrent stroke, NSA has developed the Recurrent Stroke Prevention Guidelines. Top NSA experts analyzed 36 years of recurrent stroke prevention research in developing these guidelines. NSA is now distributing the guidelines to primary care physicians, neurologists and the public.

NSA Wants You to "Ask Your Doctor"
In an effort to get life-saving information to patients and to serve as a resource for busy health professionals, National Stroke Association has created "Ask Your Doctor," a public education campaign designed to increase communication between patients and primary care providers about stroke prevention and treatment.
The first phase of this multi-year campaign was launched in the Southeastern United States and encourages patients to ask their doctors if they are at risk for stroke.
