Who are the sponsors that will be offering the Medicare-approved drug discount cards?

On March 25, 2004, Health and Human Services Secretary Thompson  announced  the names of the Medicare-approved drug card sponsors. For more information about the Medicare-approved drug discount cards please visit the  Prescription Drug and Other Assistance Programs section of www.medicare.gov  or call 1-800 MEDICARE.  You can find out about cards available in your area as well as information about the $600 credit for low-income beneficiaries. 

 

73 drug card programs have received approval from CMS.

 

There are 37 general sponsors, who will provide Medicare-approved drug discount cards to all eligible applicants.  In addition,  5 sponsors will provide Medicare-approved drug discount cards that can be used by those eligible for services from one or more of the following: Indian health pharmacies, Long Term Care pharmacies, and in the U.S. Territories.  These sponsors are:

5 General Medicare-approved drug discount card also serving Indian Health Services pharmacies.

Note:   Several drug card applicants submitted more than one application, but are represented on the list only once.  A total of thirty-nine applicants are approved. 

 

There are  43 exclusive sponsors who will provide Medicare-approved drug discount cards only to their plan members. If your Medicare managed care plan offers a Medicare-approved drug discount card to its plan members, you can choose to join only this discount card. If you choose not to join the discount card offered by your Medicare managed care plan, you can’t choose another Medicare-approved drug discount card. If your Medicare managed care plan doesn’t offer a Medicare-approved drug discount card, or offers a discount card that is open to non-members, you can choose any Medicare-approved drug discount card offered in your state.  These sponsors are:
