This document represents a listing of IRMO's main products and services, a brief description of each, and the principal customers of each.

It also provides a listing of IRMO's major projects and initiatives that relate to CDC's IRM Strategic Plan.

The document is meant to capture major projects (e.g. introduction of new products/services, major upgrades [e.g. full version level], and high visibility items) and keep everyone informed about the plans, milestones, progress and problems.

This listing is not meant to capture all of IRMO's activities or services. Other tools associated with outcome and performance measurements will be used to capture and measure more of the ongoing IRMO work efforts and services provided.

Questions on any of the projects listed herein can be directed to the person listed first in the "team members" field for that project.

References to CDC in this document include ATSDR.

IRMO's Main Products and Services

Products
CDC Communications Directory
is a family of products in printed and electronic form on the mainframe and distributed on all CDC LANs containing name, locator information, and many other directory-related data on individuals and organizations at CDC.

Customers: All CDC staff and approximately 1,000 external recipients.

CDC Executive Information System is a potential CDC-wide system for project related information, resource budgeting and expenditure data, and programmatic outcome data presented in a graphical and easy to use format for tracking and analysis by managers and executives. OAD/HIV's system called IRIS is a pilot project of this type.

Customers: Not yet implemented CDC-wide. IRIS is in use throughout OAD/HIV.

CDC/IS (CDC Information System) is CDC's automated online administrative system for processing a wide array of administrative transactions covering financial management, procurement, grants, facilities management, personnel, travel, and many others. Over 88 systems, 225 activities and 2.4 million transactions are processed annually.

Customers: Over 3,000 CDC users nationwide. CDC/IS is being transported to FDA and is under consideration for use in other parts of PHS.

CDC IRM Contracts are contracts that IRMO develops and coordinates for use throughout CDC. There are over 20 such contracts, with expenditures around 30 million dollars per year, and which provide over 500 contractor staff to address CDC's requirements.

Customers: CDC's CIOs. Principal points of contact are the CIO IRM coordinators and other CIO Technical Monitors throughout CDC.

CDC IRM Policies/Standards are a collection of consensus-developed documents which set the framework for CDC's IRM operations and technical infrastructure to ensure stability, interoperability, and future migrations to new environments which best support CDC's mission.

Customers: CDC's CIOs.

CDC IRM Update is the quarterly electronic publication of IRMO that provides a variety of technical and user information to all CDC staff on the tools, systems, and services available within CDC.

Customers: All staff at CDC and approximately 500 external recipients.

CDC VIS (Voice/Fax Information System) is the collection of information on dozens of public health and other topics which provides the caller with immediate access to hundreds of choices of prerecorded voice information over the phone at anytime or faxed information, data, and graphics to any fax machine upon request. Over 500,000 calls are received per year with over 1 million pages of fax sent.

Customers general public, press, health practitioners, public health officials, travel agents, academicians, and others.

Services
CDC Centralized Computing is an assortment of IRMO-managed hardware, software, and services provided to facilitate the computation, management, and analysis of data at CDC. It includes the CDC mainframe, SQL server, Internet servers and other various centrally managed servers.

Customers: All CDC users of central resources as well as all external customers that access CDC centrally provided data and information such as all Internet users.

CDC Connectivity is a general term describing all the products and services related to the electronic interconnectivity of CDC's staff and organizations and connectivity to the external world. For example, it includes the telephone system, Envision, local and wide area networks, e-mail, Internet, etc.

Customers: All CDC employees as well as all external customers that communicate with CDC via telephone or data communication paths.

CDC Information represents those information products and services that IRMO delivers to our internal and external customers such as maintaining the book and journal collections, providing document access, retrieval and delivery, information searches and reference, and online information. It also represents IRMO's role in providing value-added services in obtaining various public health, management, or other data and information and assembling, indexing, managing, and making it accessible to various customers in more effective ways.

Customers: All CDC staff.

IRM Consumer Research is the service of identifying customer's real needs as they relate to information and information technology.

Customers: Users and potential users of IRMO products and services.

IRM Coordination is the process of developing consensus throughout CDC's IRM infrastructure and ensuring a integrated and harmonious environment.

Customers: Principally the CDC IRM Coordinators, Principal Management Officials, Chief Administrative Officers, LAN Administrators, Internet Steering Committee and other IRM Committees and Subcommittees.

IRM Research and Evaluation is the process of identifying, testing and applying new technologies to CDC's scientific and business needs.

Customers: The CDC IRM Coordinators for general directions and program managers for specific needs.

IRM Scanning and Mission Translation is the process constantly searching externally for new trends and ideas in information resources and determining how they might fit with CDC's mission.

Customers: The CDC IRM Coordinators for general directions and program managers for specific needs.

IRM Security is the comprehensive process of establishing and operating a secure technology and information environment through controls, systems, processes, employee training, and other programs.

Customers: All users of IRMO-managed computing and networking resources.

IRM Service Continuity is the process of establishing and operating systems that deliver continuous and reliable services and which can be readily restored in the event of a disaster.

Customers: All users of IRMO-managed computing and networking resources.

IRM Technical Consultation is the service of consulting with internal and external staff and organizations on information and information technologies, i.e. providing technical assistance and advice.

Customers: All users of IRMO products and services.

IRM Training is the development and/or provision of instruction on the understanding and use of information systems and technology.

Customers: All users of IRMO products and services.

IRM User Support is the service of providing answers to customers' and users' questions and problems with information technology and systems.

Customers: All users of IRMO products and services.
