QUOTE OF THE DAY
The prairie was set on fire (or caught by accident) by a yound man of the Mandans. The fire went with such velocity that it burned to death a man and woman. . . A boy half white was saved unhurt in the midst of the flame. These ignorant people say this boy was saved by the Great Medicine Spirit because he was white. The cause of his being saved was a green buffalo skin thrown over him by his mother. . . The fire did not burn under the skin. This fire passed our camp. . . It went with great rapidity and looked tremendous.

Partner Highlight - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM)
As the Corps of Discovery worked its way westward, members of the Expedition wrote detailed journal entries about many of the spectacular landscapes now managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The Louisiana Purchase of 1803 and the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1803-1806 opened the heartland of the North American continent for exploration, settlement, and achievement. This new frontier attracted immigrants from around the world and became synonymous with the search for spiritual, economic, and political freedom. (Continued). BLM Logo
