Weather Highlights Continued:

August 16: Morning thunderstorms bring street flooding to Las Cruces and Truth or Consequences. Later in the day, afternoon showers and thunderstorms move across Hudspeth County with street flooding reported between Sierra Blanca and Dell City. 

August 18: Late morning and afternoon showers and thunderstorms drop 2 to 3 inches of rain over portions of Hudspeth County with flooding in the Sierra Blanca area. Afternoon thunderstorms also produce heavy rains over portions of Grant and Sierra Counties with parts of Highway 152 flooded between Hillsboro and Mimbres. 

August 29: Severe thunderstorms drop golf ball-sized hail over portions of Las Cruces while one-inch diameter hail damages motor vehicles in east El Paso. Heavy rains also bring street flooding to Cornudas in northern Hudspeth County.



September 9: Cool morning with El Paso tying a record low temperature by falling to 55 degrees. 

September 13: Hot day across the deserts with El Paso tying a record high temperature by reaching 97 degrees.

September 24: Severe thunderstorms produce hail almost an inch in diameter in the Silver City area. Other storms drop a swath of small hail across Interstate 25 in the Truth or Consequences vicinity with numerous accidents occurring due to the icy road conditions.

September 25: Heavy rains flood homes  in Tornillo with a number of people forced to evacuate.  Floodwaters are 5 feet deep in some locations.

TORNADO OR FUNNEL CLOUD...report time, location and movement

HAIL.......................................1/2 inch or larger

DAMAGING WINDS............damage to buildings, motor vehicles, trees and power lines

FLASH FLOODING.............flooding of streets or buildings or if rivers, streams or
                                                 arroyos flood or overflow

HEAVY RAINS...................1/2 inch or more of rain in less than 30 minutes or
                                               1 inch or more of rain in less than 2 hours

BLOWING DUST................when blowing sand or dust reduces visibilities under 2
miles

SNOW...................................any time it accumulates in the desert or if at least 2 inches
                                               deep over the mountains

SLEET or FREEZING RAIN.....any time or place it occurs
