NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF AZ

...SNOWY AND COLD OCTOBER FOR FLAGSTAFF...

WITH A MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 44.6 DEGREES...FLAGSTAFF
AIRPORT RECORDED ITS FIFTH CONSECUTIVE BELOW NORMAL MONTH. OCTOBER
2004 WAS 2.5 DEGREES BELOW THE 1971-2000 NORMAL OF 47.1 DEGREES.
EVERY MONTH SINCE JUNE 2004 HAS BEEN BELOW NORMAL FOR TEMPERATURES.
THE LAST TIME THAT FLAGSTAFF HAD FIVE CONSECUTIVE MONTHS BELOW
NORMAL WAS BACK IN 1999. THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 1 THROUGH OCTOBER 31
WAS THE 18TH COOLEST SINCE WEATHER RECORDS BEGAN IN 1898. THIS IS
MUCH DIFFERENT THAN THE YEARS 2000, 2001, 2002, AND 2003 WHICH WERE
SOME OF THE WARMEST YEARS ON RECORD.

OCTOBER 2004 WAS ALSO A SNOWY MONTH FOR FLAGSTAFF WITH 15.3 INCHES
OF SNOWFALL RECORDED. THIS MAKES OCTOBER 2004 THE FOURTH SNOWIEST ON
RECORD SINCE 1898. THE SNOWIEST OCTOBER OCCURRED IN 1971 WHEN 24.7
INCHES OF SNOWFALL WAS RECORDED. NORMAL SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH IS
3.3 INCHES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION (RAIN AND MELTED SNOW) WAS 3.51
INCHES...WHICH WAS 1.58 INCHES ABOVE THE MONTHLY AVERAGE OF 1.93
INCHES.

THE OFFICIAL FORECAST FOR NOVEMBER CALLS FOR SLIGHTLY BETTER CHANCES
FOR ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND NORMAL CHANCES OF PRECIPITATION
THROUGH THE MONTH.
