Nominations

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate two individuals to serve in his administration.

The President intends to nominate Thomas Forrest Hall to be Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs.  Hall has been the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Naval Reserve Association since 1996.  From 1963 to 1996, he was an officer in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Two Star Admiral.  His service included four years as Commander, Director and Chief of the Naval Reserve, three years as the Commander of the Iceland Defense Force and two years as Commander of Naval Air Station Bermuda.  An Oklahoma native, Hall received his bachelor's degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and received a Master's degree from George Washington University.

The President intends to nominate John Leonard Helgerson to be Inspector General for the Central Intelligence Agency.  Helgerson is presently the Deputy Director of the National Imagery and Mapping Agency.  He began his career with the CIA in 1971 and served as the agency's Deputy Director for Intelligence from 1989 to 1993.  He also held the posts of Director of Russian and European Analysis, Director of African and Latin American Analysis, Deputy Director of Near Eastern and South Asian Analysis, Director of Congressional Affairs and Deputy Inspector General.  Helgerson received a bachelor's degree from St. Olaf College and both a Master's degree and Ph.D. from Duke University.
