To amend the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act concerning the use of Federal disaster assistance for hazard mitigation measures.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Mr. JONES of North Carolina introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure

A BILL

To amend the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act concerning the use of Federal disaster assistance for hazard mitigation measures.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. HAZARD MITIGATION.

(a) IN GENERAL- The last sentence of section 404(a) of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 5170c(a)) is amended by striking `7.5' and inserting `15'.

(b) APPLICABILITY- The amendment made by subsection (a) shall apply with respect to a major disaster declared by the President after September 30, 2002.
