Seeds of Peace

Looking to expand your professional network and expertise abroad?
Interested in world affairs, and discussing the issues of the Middle East with Americans?


Seeds of Peace, world-renowned for its international leadership programs, is pleased to invite you to apply to participate in its groundbreaking exchange program between Arab and American adult educators, “Beyond Borders.”

Beyond Borders offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel abroad, network with other education professionals, and engage in serious, honest, and open discussions on the relationship between America and the Middle East. A total of 20 adult educators—10 Arabs from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Yemen, Egypt, and Jordan, and 10 Americans from Massachusetts, New York, California, Illinois, Texas and Georgia—will be selected to lead small youth delegations from their countries/states and participate in their own unique program, which is comprised of two sessions:

IN THE UNITED STATES…

The program begins with a two-week session at the Seeds of Peace International Camp in Maine, August 14-30, 2004, where 20 Arab and American education professionals and 60 Arab and American young leaders will meet to share their cultures and perspectives on diverse issues. You will spend your days learning new activities, meeting with leading academics, and sharing your culture and opinions with your American peers in open discussions. The last two days you will travel to Boston, Massachusetts, exploring the city and learning what life is like in the United States.

IN THE MIDDLE EAST…

Six months later, the Americans will come to the Middle East! Reunite with your peers at the second session of Beyond Borders in Petra, Jordan, March 11-19, 2005. You’ll meet with high-level Arab and American academic, cultural, and political figures to discuss to discuss key issues related to the Middle East and education. You’ll spend the last two days exploring Amman and sharing what life is like in Arab countries.

In order to be eligible to apply, you must be:
• Over the age of 30
• English-speaking
• Employed in the field of education
• Willing and able to travel to Jordan for a weeklong session in March 2005. Please note that you will most likely need to take 5 days off of work.

All costs, including all travel, food, and lodging for both the United States and Jordan sessions, are fully funded by Seeds of Peace.

If you meet the above criteria and wish to apply, please complete the attached application by April 15, 2004. Once submissions are received, candidates will be notified of their status and invited to an interview in their city. Please email BeyondBorders@seedsofpeace.org with any questions.

Seeds of Peace, world-renowned for its international youth leadership programs, is pleased to invite you to apply to participate in its groundbreaking exchange program between Arab and American teenagers, “Beyond Borders.”

Beyond Borders offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel abroad, live with young leaders from around the world, and engage in serious, honest, and open discussions on the relationship between America and the Middle East. A total of 60 teenagers—30 Arabs from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Yemen, Egypt, and Jordan, and 30 Americans from Massachusetts, New York, California, Illinois, Texas, and Georgia—will be selected to participate in the program, which is comprised of two sessions:

IN THE UNITED STATES…

You will spend your days playing sports, learning new activities, and sharing your culture and opinions with your American peers in open discussions. You’ll spend the last two days exploring Amman and sharing what life is like in Arab countries.

In order to be eligible to apply, you must be:
• Aged 14-16
• English-speaking
• Knowledgeable and interested in world affairs
• Willing and able to travel to Jordan for a weeklong session in March 2005. Please note that you will most likely need to take 5 days off of school.
