Barbara Pope
Assistant Secretary, Office of Civil Rights
Term of Appointment: 05/06/2001 to present

Ms. Pope joined the Department after 8 years as President of the Pope Group, a management consulting company. She has served as an expert consultant to the Department of Justice for Title VII and Title IX issues. 

Previously, Ms. Pope served as
Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs under former President Bush, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Reagan. A former Chief of Staff at the Small Business Administration, she began her career on Capitol Hill with Senator Barry Goldwater.
 

Ms. Pope was recipient of the National “Breaking the Glass Ceiling” Award in 1992.
