HUD sponsors certain approved housing counseling agencies that in turn provide counseling services to citizens for free. To find a counselor that serves your neighborhood, call our Toll-free number: (800) 569-4287.

Information for Housing Counselors

Important Notice for Grant Applicants
Beginning with the FY05 SuperNOFA, all Housing Counseling applications must be submitted electronically through grants.gov. Go to grants.gov, select the "Get Started" tab and take the following steps:

  • Secure a DUNS Number
  • Register in the Central Contractor Registry (CCR)
  • Register with the Credential Provider*
  • Register with grants.gov

*The credential provider issues usernames and passwords that are required for secure electronic submission of grant applications. Quantities are limited so ACT NOW to get yours in time to submit an application under the FY05 SuperNOFA.

Housing Counseling System
Housing Counseling System (HCS) automated on-line system is now available to HUD Home Ownership Centers (HOCs) and HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agencies (HCAs). This is a secure web site requiring ID and Password to login. HCA will use this system to update agency profile/contact information and submit annual form HUD-9902 reports.

HUD approved Housing Counseling Agencies should review their agency information NOW and at least quarterly to ensure their agency information is current and accurate. Be sure to execute the "Validation" button on HC's Agency Profile Page to indicate the posted information is current and accurate. HUD -Approved HCAs having difficulty accessing HCS should contact their local HUD Homeownership Center.
