Welcome to the Horticultural Crops Research Laboratory
Originally named the Ornamental Plants Research Laboratory, the Horticultural Crops Research Laboratory (HCRL) was built in 1973 on the campus of Oregon State University. It was established to conduct research on problems affecting the nursery crops industry in the Pacific Northwest. In 1982, the scope of research expanded to include other horticultural crops, especially small fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, caneberries, and grapes. In 1994, the original laboratory building was expanded to more than double the original capacity. The scientific staff of the HCRL now consists of 14 principal scientists and a total of 83 employees. The majority of our staff is located in Corvallis, but due to the regional scope of our programs, Grape Horticulture programs are located in Prosser, Washington and Parma, Idaho.
