The
Broadcast Media & Technology Center typically produces more
than 90 TV news stories a year in the form of Video News Releases
(VNR’s). These stories cover mission messages including trade,
biotechnology, rural development, research, water quality, nutrition,
food safety, national forests, conservation, cooperative extension,
small farms, marketing and food rescue. This is an excellent avenue
for agencies to get their message out to consumers and the agricultural
community. The Center's VNR’s usually air on two nationally
syndicated programs with targeted audiences of farmers and strong
rural viewership, AgDay and US Farm Report. Stories also air in
a variety of commercial television station markets. As a weekly
service to broadcasters across the country, the Center's TV news
producers, write and produce a fifteen minute news "package"
that includes two to three VNR’s and additional sound bites.
The "package" is mailed to selected stations as well as
fed via satellite each Thursday at 4:15 PM Eastern time. These video
news releases are also made available to the public as "streaming
media" files with direct links from the USDA home page on the
Internet.
