Supreme Court Decisions (1937-1975)
Background

The full text of Supreme Court Decisions issued between 1937 and 1975, containing 7,407 Decisions from volumes 300 through 422 of U.S. Reports has been provided to the Government Printing Office through efforts of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Office of Management and Budget. It was furnished by the U.S. Air Force from its FLITE ("Federal Legal Information Through Electronics") system. GPO is making the database available to the public without costly validation efforts. While we cannot attest to its authenticity or completeness, we are convinced that it will, at the very least, serve as a superb "finder's aid." The size of the database and the number of words (14.5 million) may require that several searches be conducted to find what you are looking for.

PROJECT HERMES

Participation in Project Hermes has allowed GPO to acquire validated files of Supreme Court Decisions from mid-1990 through the October Term 1999. (October Term 2000 to the present can be found on the Supreme Court Web site at http://www.supremecourtus.gov.) The U.S. Supreme Court distributes its opinions in both WordPerfect and ASCII text formats. The Government Printing Office originally began disseminating the opinions via its Federal Bulletin Board (FBB) Service but is now utilizing files in the ASCII format to create a searchable WAIS database to make Decisions available to Internet users via GPO Access.

Maximum Records Returned: Default is 40. Maximum is 200.
