About GSA
Heartland (6) Building Services and Concessions
Cherry Street Cafe

The Heartland Region provides many services and amenities to federal tenants, including concession and janitorial services, as well as safety and fire protection services.

Concessions

The Heartland Region concessions program consists of a variety of food service operations including full service cafeterias, limited menu diners, snack shops and vending services. The full service cafeterias alone serve 20,000 people. The Heartland Region partners with vendors from the state licensing agencies as well as commercial vendors to provide food service for GSA’s customers.

Fire Protection Program

GSA is committed to providing fire protection for the safety of federal workers.

GSA hires fire protection consultants when needed, maximizing fire protection expertise when replacing or adding fire protection in a location.

The Heartland is currently involved in many fire protection endeavors, including providing fire safety systems in limestone caverns, which many federal agencies are beginning to utilize.  These efforts are supported by the Heartland Region’s involvement with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

Janitorial

The Heartland Region cleaning program serves approximately 14 million square feet of federally-owned space.

The Heartland Region partners with a host of cleaning vendors including the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped (NISH), 8A and other small business and minority-owned vendors to offer a vast menu of services to GSA customers. Such services include, but are not limited to, performance-based daily cleaning, carpet shampooing, window washing, stripping and refinishing of hard floors, venetian blind cleaning, snow removal, landscaping and solid waste removal.

Safety & Environmental

The goal of the Heartland Region Safety & Environmental Team is to provide a safe and healthy workplace for all building occupants and visitors.

In support of this objective, GSA recognizes the need to harness all related program information and make it available to GSA customers.

Important safety information is available on the safety website.  Benefits of the website include an interactive accident report and up to date information on building specific safety issues. Examples of featured safety issues include asbestos and lead paint.

The Heartland Region Safety & Environmental team is dedicated to maintaining accurate electronic records, pursuing record keeping excellence in support of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).  Partnering with NARA, the Team assists in maintenance and monitoring of the only archival records storage facilities in the Midwest.
