NSF Graduate Research Fellowships
GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM DEADLINES:

The GRFP 2004 Competition deadline for submitting an Application Package is 5.00 PM, your local time on the following dates:

November 4, 2003: Life Sciences, Physics and Astronomy
November 5, 2003: Engineering, Mathematical Sciences, Geosciences
November 6, 2003: Social Sciences, Computer and Information Science and Engineering, Psychology, Chemistry
 
 
Application Package Preparation and Submission

Welcome to the FastLane Graduate Research Fellowship process for preparing and submitting an Application Package. Using this process you can complete the following GRFP forms: Information Form, Application Form, Proposed Plan of Research, Previous Research Experience.

The following forms must be sent directly to: GRF Operations Center, c/o ASEE, 1818 N Street, N.W. Suite 600, Washington, DC 20036: Undergraduate GPA, Official Academic Transcripts.

Questions about the FastLane Graduate Research Fellowship Program or Application Process may be directed to 1-800-673-6188 (Email: felapp@nsf.gov). IMPORTANT - About The FastLane Electronic Application Process
You may begin preparation of an Application Package by clicking on Prepare a New Application Package.

You will be asked to enter a Password of your own choice. Remember your Password, because you will need it to revise or submit your Application Package.

Helpful Hint: Use the "Tab" key to move forward from one entry field to the next. Use "Shift/Tab" to move backward. Use the Scroll Bar on the right to move down the page.

Helpful Hint: Separate paragraphs by a blank line (use the Enter key). If you also want to indent a paragraph, use the space bar.

Helpful Hint: NSF understands that you will abbreviate when necessary to fit requested information into the spaces provided.

Using this process, you can prepare and submit to NSF the following forms:

    Information Form
    Application Form
    Proposed Plan of Research Form
    Previous Research Experience Form

Once you have begun preparation of the forms in your Application Package, you will be able to save any form as a "draft" for later completion, or you can complete the Application Package and submit it to NSF. After you have submitted your Application Package, you will still be able to view or print it by clicking on View/Print Application Package. If you need to revise data on the Information or Application Forms after submitting it, you may do so by sending changes to GRF Operations Center, c/o ASEE, 1818 N Street, N.W. Suite 600, Washington, DC 20036.

FastLane Applicant's Instructions For References

Your References must submit their Reference Report by using FastLane. Please tell your References of this requirement.

Please provide your References with your assigned Reference Code, located on the email sent to you when you began your Application and also located in Question 10 of the FastLane Fellowship Application form.

In order to submit a Reference Report using FastLane, a reference must have:

  1. Internet access,
  2. a Web browser (Netscape 4.0 or higher),
  3. the URL for the FastLane Home Page (http://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/),
  4. your assigned Reference Code (located on the email sent to you when you began your Application and also located in Question 10 of the FastLane Fellowship Application form).

To Prepare and Submit a Reference Report via FastLane, your reference writer should click on the 'Graduate Research Fellowship' link on the FastLane Home Page and then click on the 'I am a Reference Report Writer' link. After entering your Reference Code and other Login information, your reference can start preparing his/her Reference Report for you.

Retrieval of Graduate Research Fellowship Materials
The Guidelines for Submission of Applications may be viewed or retrieved in paper form using the following methods.

a. NSF Web Site:http://www.nsf.gov/grfp

Via the Internet, you can download the Guidelines for Submission of Applications in PDF printable form or view the HTML version. To view the PDF forms you must have the Adobe Viewer installed, which is a free product and can be downloaded at this site. If your browser does not automatically launch the Microsoft Word 97 on-line form, a message will appear to prompt you to save the Word file to a local disk drive.

b. Information via E-Mail:

You can have the Guidelines for Submission of Applications sent to you via electronic mail.

Send an electronic mail message to: getpub@nsf.gov

Leave the subject line blank. In the body of the message enter:

    get nsf03050.pdf (for Guidelines for Submission of Applications in PDF form).
