The Nebraska-Kansas Area Office (NKAO) is located in Grand Island, Nebraska . The office manages Reclamation projects in Nebraska and Kansas with the exception of the North Platte Project, which extends from Wyoming into Nebraska, and the Wichita Project in Kansas.
In Nebraska the Area Office manages six units of the Pick-Sloan Missouri Basin Program and two additional projects. The Pick-Sloan units are Ainsworth, Farwell, Frenchman-Cambridge, North Loup, Sargent and Bostwick. The other projects are Mirage Flats and North Platte.
The Nebraska projects provided water for 509,000 acres of farmland in 1990 as well as flood control, recreation, and fish and wildlife purposes. Reservoirs in Nebraska provide 25,000 acres of water surface at normal pool and 40,000 acres of adjacent land for public use. The reservoir areas are managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for fish and wildlife, and recreation purposes. |
