Fire restrictions
continue for BLM lands
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Fire restrictions implemented earlier this
summer will remain in effect through the Labor Day holiday for all
public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Grand
Junction field office (GJFO). The GJFO jurisdiction includes all BLM
public lands in
Mesa
County,
Colorado, as well as western Garfield County, Colorado. These fire
restrictions will be enforced in popular recreational destinations
such as the Colorado Canyons National Conservation Area, Black Ridge
Canyons Wilderness Area, Colorado River corridor, North Fruita Desert
and Bang’s Canyon.
“While some regions of
Colorado have received ample rainfall this summer, drought conditions
persist on the Western Slope. We’re asking people to continue to be
diligent in preventing unwanted fires,” said Supervisory Outdoor
Recreation Planner Britta Laub.
Given the high fire danger, it is unlawful to have any fire except in
improved campfire facilities in developed campgrounds. Smoking is
also prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle, or in a developed
recreation site, or while in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that
is barren or cleared of flammable vegetation. All fireworks are
prohibited on public land.
