at work in the parks

Archeologists are at work throughout the national park system, though an essential part of the effort is ensuring that sites are not disturbed by visitors, thieves, erosion, or other forces. Examples of research include finding the location of the Sand Creek Massacre of 1865, investigating the living arrangements on the plantation where Booker T. Washington grew up, and recording the architectural details of ancient stone structures at Hovenweep National Monument.

Have a look at the national map for some recent projects.
