How to obtain an appointment for a visa interview

Versión en español

All appointments are scheduled through the Visa Information Service. Please note that almost all applicants must schedule an appointment for an interview in order to apply for a U.S. visa. For more information, please call the Visa Information Service.

Applicants age 13 and under do not need a personal interview, unless the consular officer requires it.

Applicants who are age 80 years or older do not need a personal interview, if the applicant has never been refused a visa.

The Consular Section retains the right to require an interview for any applicant, and frequently does so if there are any questions about the application.

After scheduling an appointment, the visa application fee may be paid at Banco Unión Colombiano ; in Bogotá, at Carrera 47 # 22A-99 (Edificio Eliana), Sucursal Avenida Jimenez (Carrera 8 # 14-45) and Sucursal Avenida Chile (Carrera 7 # 71-48). In Cali, Medellin, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Bucaramanga, Pereira and Manizales payment may be made at the main office of the Banco Union Colombiano.

The fee is $100.00 or the Colombian peso equivalent for each applicant. The Bank will issue an adhesive receipt with a bar code which will indicate the date and time of the interview. The receipt is non-transferable and is valid until the date of the interview. There is no reimbursement for loss or theft.

Applicants must also fill out a visa interview request form (DS-156), which is available from the Bogota branch of the Banco Union Colombiano listed above, or upon arrival at the Embassy.

To Expedite the Visa Application Process

After setting up an appointment with the Visa Information Service, logon to the Banco Unión Colombiano website and fill out the form under the heading of "Solicitud de visa". Upon completing this form, the applicant can go to Banco Unión Colombiano and pay the equivalent in Colombian pesos of the visa application fee of $100.00, and pick up the adhesive receipt without any delay.
