David Black has been employed
at the United States Department of Agriculture, in the Office
of Communications since January of 1992. Before becoming the Broadcast
Media & Technology Center's Director, David was the Production
Manager of the Center, in charge of television and radio news
as well as video production. He oversaw the news staff, production
team and managed the facility.
Since being
with USDA, David has produced and directed numerous video programs,
television news stories and public service announcement for national
television and radio audiences. He has also traveled around the
world reporting on stories for USDA's television news service.
These travels have taken him to Russia, Guatemala, Japan and South
Africa. He covered stories dealing with four Secretaries of Agriculture
as well as three Presidents.
David Black
was born on the small Caribbean island nation of Jamaica. After
graduating high school he worked for two years for the Jamaican
government helping to produce television and radio programs to
promote adult literacy, especially to rural communities. He came
to the United States to attend college, graduating with honors
with a degree in communication arts, specializing in radio, television
and film.
David spent
10 years producing and directing training films and documentaries
before starting his own production company. However, when USDA
asked him to join the Communications staff, he enthusiastically
said yes, relishing the opportunity to travel to rural America
and other nations producing stories about farmers, ranchers, the
environment, consumers, science and trade.
David has
received several awards in the television industry for productions
in long form documentaries as well as video news releases and
public service announcements.
