Charles Barnard is an economist with the Resource Economics Division. His research focuses on national issues related to urban influence, Federal farm program payments, rural amenities, farmland protection, and farmland values.

background
Charles has served as an economist with ERS for 23 years. During that time, he has been a member of five ERS branches, with research covering all aspects of rural land economics, including farm real estate assets, farmland values, and foreign ownership of U.S. farmland.

education
Charles holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Washington State University. He also received M.S. and B.S. degrees from Montana State University.

professional affiliations
Charles is a member of the American Agricultural Economics Association and the Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association.
