Secretary Paige Unveils New Guide to Help Schools Plan for Crises

As part of his continuing efforts to help keep our schools, our teachers and our students safe, U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige today announced that a new guide, Practical Information on Crisis Planning: A Guide for Schools and Communities, is available to help schools plan for any emergency, including natural disasters, violent incidents and terrorist acts. Paige, Ridge Unveil New Web Resource to Help Schools Plan for Emergencies

In an effort to provide school leaders with more information about emergency preparedness, U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge today unveiled a new section on the U.S. Department of Education's Web site, at http://www.ed.gov/emergencyplan, designed to be a one-stop shop to help school officials plan for any emergency, including natural disasters, violent incidents and terrorist acts. Paige Announces Formation of Two New Offices

U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige today announced the formation of two new offices within the Education Department -- the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools and the Office of Innovation and Improvement.

All activities related to safe schools, crisis response, alcohol and drug prevention, health and well being of students, and building strong character and citizenship will be located in the safe and drug-free schools office. It will also take the leadership role in the department's Homeland Security efforts.
