Child Care
Child Care Overview
GSA supports the national commitment to provide quality child care as an essential component of a quality work environment. GSA has over 110 Child Care Centers operating in GSA managed space across 31 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The child care program ensures that working families using child care in centers located in GSA managed space receive quality care for their children. The nationwide network of Child Care Coordinators work in partnership with other federal agencies, boards of directors, providers, and GSA staff to establish and maintain these high quality programs. Title 40 of the United States Code, Section 590 (formerly 490b), passed by Congress in 1985, as amended, gives federal agencies the authority to establish child care centers for federal families. At least 50 percent of the children enrolled in a child care center must be children of federal employees. Remaining available slots may be open to the general public.
