EU Wheat Exports Down Due to Weak Early-Season North African Demand

EU wheat and flour export license awards are more than 25 percent behind last year's pace. Flour sales are down the most as former importers increase their milling capacity. Wheat sales are also behind despite large unexpected business from Iran and India.

So far this year, North African imports are running half of last year's levels, despite drought-reduced crops in a number of countries. In addition, Egypt is apparently drawing down stocks while waiting for lower prices. Despite lower regional purchases, U.S. exports are on par with last year's pace.
