Mr. ISRAEL submitted the following concurrent resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Armed Services
Whereas the Army Air Force created the Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron in September 1942, and later renamed the unit, Women Airforce Service Pilots;
Whereas members of the Women Airforce Service Pilots were the first women in United States history trained to fly military aircraft;
Whereas Women Airforce Service Pilots were sent on noncombat missions ferrying planes between factories and Army Air Force installations during World War II;
Whereas 38 brave members of the Women Airforce Service Pilots gave their lives in the performance of duty for their country during World War II;
Whereas members of the Women Airforce Service Pilots served valiantly, making the ultimate sacrifice to help their Nation achieve final victory in World War II;
Whereas, although Women Airforce Service Pilots were promised military classification, they were classified as civilians and the 38 women pilots who died in the line of duty were buried without military honors; and
Whereas this wrong was not corrected until 1977 when the Congress formally recognized the service of members of the Women Airforce Service Pilots as active military service, and members of the Women Airforce Service Pilots were made eligible for veterans' benefits: Now, therefore, be it
