President Bush to Nominate Kelly as Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs
The President today announced his intention to nominate
James Andrew
Kelly to be Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific
Affairs. Kelly is presently the President of the Pacific Forum of the
Center for Strategic and International Studies in Honolulu,
Hawaii. During the Reagan Administration, he served as
Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and as
Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the National Security
Council. He served at the Pentagon as Deputy Assistant
Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs for East Asia
and the Pacific from 1983 to 1986. A twenty-three year
veteran of the U.S. Navy, he is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy
and received a M.B.A. from Harvard University.
