The engineering department of the Salmon-Challis National Forest prepares and administers construction contracts for the following types of projects:  road construction,  reconstruction, and maintenance; magnesium chloride application; recreation sites; campground construction and reconstruction; well drilling; water systems; bridges; vault toilets; trail construction, reconstruction, and maintenance; and facilities construction and maintenance.

Please note: Vendors must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration database to be eligible to submit a proposal. You may register at www.ccr.gov

Road Projects:

  • Boundary Creek Road -- 25 miles NW of Stanley, ID. Reconstruction and crushed aggregrate surfacing on 11 1/2 miles. Contract has been awarded to Desert Sage Contractors, Inc. Work is scheduled to begin October 15, 2004. Expect delays up to 4 hours if you are travelling through Bruce and Ayers Meadows.

Facilities Projects:
  • North Fork Office Remodel. Awarded to Wellard Construction. Work is in progress (October 2004)

  • Lead Base Paint Removal, Challis Ranger District, Hughes Creek, Indianola, Spring 2005.

  • Yankee Fork Hand Pump upgrades (Yankee Fork Ranger District). Awarded to Wholesale Water, work is in progress (October 2004.)
  • Twin Creek Campground (North Fork Ranger District) and Crags Campground (Salmon/Cobalt Ranger District) water system upgrades. Awarded to Dave Price Trucking. Work is scheduled to begin October 2004.

  • Corn Creek Campground Water System Improvements. Work is in progress (October 2004.)

  • Boundary Creek Bunkhouses and utilities, Spring 2005.

  • Bacon Ranch (Salmon/Cobalt Ranger District) well drilling and water system upgrade. Work is in probress (October 2004).

  • Lost River Ranger District Office Steps, Porch, Roof and restrooms remodel. Spring 2005.

  • Pope Shenon Mine Tailings Removal. Contract awarded to Westfall Logging.

  • Trail Projects:
    • None at this time (October 2004)
