U.S. Trade and Development Grant for Dwory S.A., September 21, 2004

U.S. Commercial Service Warsaw hosted a signing ceremony for a USTDA grant for $218,000 to support a feasibility study in O¶wiêcim, Poland. Commercial Attaché, Mr. David McNeill signed the grant document on behalf of the USTDA and presented the award to Mr. Zdzis³aw Ingielewicz, President of Dwory S.A., a leading Polish manufacturer of synthetic rubber. Dwory will cooperate with Nexant, Inc. of White Plains, NY to study the feasibility of expanding production of styrene at the firm's facility in southern Poland.

U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe presides over ceremonial delivery of first of 217 Humvees sold to the Polish military at the Kielce Defense Trade Show on Aug. 31

In support of the 25 U.S. exhibitors at the Kielce Show, Commercial Service Warsaw organized a full day of activities with U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Mr. Victor Ashe including a reception hosted by the Ambassador for 80 people for company representatives, potential business partners and ranking government officials including Deputy Defense Minister Janusz Zemke. Commercial Counselor, Mr. Edgar Fulton also escorted the Ambassador on a two-hour tour of the exhibition floor, introducing him to each U.S. company and briefing him on business dynamics in the market. The Kielce Show is the premier annual event for the defense and security industries in Poland and represents an excellent venue for U.S. companies in these sectors.

Staffdel visit to CS Warsaw, August 12, 2004

Commercial Service Warsaw hosted members of Staffdel Moore to its offices for a briefing on Commercial Service activities on behalf of U.S. companies in Poland. Delegates represented Congressional Representatives Dennis Hastert, Tom Delay, Tom Davis and Deborah Pryce.

New Commercial Attaché Reports to CS Warsaw

Commercial Attaché David McNeill began his three-year assignment in Warsaw on July 15, replacing R.J. Donovan who has left for a new assignment. We wish R.J. the best in his new position. David joins us with 17 years of experience with the Commercial Service, most recently as Director of the CS office in Kansas City, Missouri and as Commercial Attaché in Taipei, Taiwan previous to that.

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency signs a $400,000 grant for the district heat distribution company MPEC Wroclaw S.A. on July 1, 2004

On July 1, 2004 the U.S. Trade and Development Agency signed a $400,000 grant to the district heat distribution company MPEC Wroclaw S.A. for a study on the development of the e-Wro network. MPEC Wroclaw currently provides internet access to 4,200 households through a heat distribution network - . the first such project in Poland and one of only a few in Europe. The company hopes to use wireless broadband technologies for multimedia and telecommunications services. The Wroclaw project is expected to become a model for similar projects in other cities. The Grant Agreement was signed by Ambassador Christoper Hill, the former U.S. Ambassador to Poland and Ned Cabot, Regional Director, USTDA on the U.S. side and by Marek Rakowicz, President and Danuta Oczachowska, Vice President for MPEC. The Mayor of Wroclaw, Rafal Dutkiewicz, hosted the signing ceremony.

Poland joins the European Union on May 1st, 2004.
