This article is recommended reading for all users of the various
TIC data related to cross-border securities. The article explains
the inter-relationships of the monthly transactions data with
those collected by the Foreign Portfolio Investment Benchmark
Surveys, discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the two
data collection systems, and gives valuable advice to those
using data from both systems to construct ongoing estimates

of Payments data and the latest news release on International
Transactions (quarterly) are available from the Bureau
of Economic Analysis (BEA), U.S. Department of Commerce.
On the balance of payments webpage, details of securities
transactions can be found in Table 7 in the Interactive Tables.
The BEA estimates include adjusted TIC data and, in addition,
data on debt and equity transactions associated with merger
and acquisition activity that are not included in the TIC
data. Table 7 also provides data on the volume of new offshore
issues by U.S.-incorporated firms and on new issues placed
in the U.S. market by foreign-incorporated firms. The lastest
