Technical Abstract: USDA initiated a coffee research program in 1996. This brief article, written for "The Coffee Reporter" (a publication of the National Coffee Association of USA, Inc.), describes the program's origin, its emphasis on coffee berry borer research and information dissemination, and the collaborations that have been developed with Colombian scientists.
