Government Information Locator Service

Template for Preparing GILS Records | Search HHS GILS | HHS GILS Coordinators

Welcome to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) inventory of GILS locator records. GILS records provide key information about HHS information systems and other HHS information products. Additional U. S. government agency GILS records can be accessed via the Government Printing Office Access World Wide Web internet site.

The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, section 3511, calls for the establishment and operation of a "distributed agency-based electronic Government Information Locator Service." OMB Bulletin No. 95-01, Establishment of Government Information Locator Service, requires: "All Federal Agencies, By December 31, 1995, to make their initial GILS Core locator records available on-line in a form compliant with FIPS Pub. 192and the related application profile." Further information concerning the background and governmentwide implementation of GILS can be accessed at the U. S. Geological Survey Web site.

To find the GILS record(s) you want, you must enter keywords which will be used in searching and retrieving those records. You may use the following Boolean operators to assist you in developing your search: AND, OR, NOT, and ADJ and you may use literals (i.e., a group of words to be searched, exactly as you enter them) by enclosing them in quotation marks.

To read the official government description for each field, as defined by the National Archives and Records Administration, and provided by the Department of Defense World Wide Web sever, select the highlighted field name.
