NSF's Division of Science Resources Studies (SRS) provides access to a wealth
of statistics on science and technology that can be a valuable resource for
persons preparing proposals to the Societal Dimensions of Engineering,
Science and Technology program, as well as other programs related to science
and technology policy. Tables and text from SRS reports and surveys can be
downloaded, often in convenient spreadsheet formats, to your own computer to
be manipulated later. The web site's address is
http://www.nsf.gov/sbe/srs/pubdata.htm.
SRS designs, supports, and directs about 14 periodic surveys as well as a
variety of other data collections and research projects. Each year SRS
produces about 30 publications, which take the form of statistical
compilations, overviews, reports on focused topics, and special reports.
Statistical reports provide basic data on the education of scientists and
engineers, the science and engineering work force, research and development
funding and performance, and the R&D infrastructure. The materials
include comprehensive and special analyses on science and engineering,
ranging from the biannual Science and Engineering Indicators report
from the National Science Board to the President, to the special report on
Assessing Fundamental Science.
