The Real Tour Of The Mint

Free tours are available to the public at both the Philadelphia and Denver Mint facilities.  These tours cover both the present state of coin manufacturing as well as the history of the United States Mint.  Learn about the craftsmanship required at all stages of the minting process, from the original designs and sculptures to the actual striking of the coins.

If you're in the Denver or Philadelphia area, read further for help in arranging a trip to your local Mint facility.

The Philadelphia Mint


Currently public tours at the Philadelphia Mint facility will be open to students and youth groups (grades kindergarten through 12), and organized military and veteran groups, and Congressionally sponsored groups of six or fewer persons at a time.

Scheduling of Tours

Tours of students and youth groups (grades kindergarten through 12), and organized military and veteran groups may be arranged through the Office of Exhibits and Public Services at the Philadelphia Mint at (215) 408-0112, by appointment only.  Two weeks advance notice is required for scheduling and security purposes.

Tours for groups of six or fewer citizens at a time may be arranged through Congressional sponsorship.  Contact information can be found for your Senator at http://www.senate.gov/senators/senator_by_state.cfm or for your Representative at http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW_by_State.html.  Please note that two weeks advance notice is required for scheduling and security purposes.

Mint Gift Shop

Opened on a limited basis. U. S. Mint Coin Sets, commemorative coins, numismatic collectables, books, games and U. S. Mint souvenirs are available.  Please call the store directly at 215-408-0230 for sales information.

Safety and Security

For everyone's protection, The United States Mint must prohibit a variety of items.  Those items include, but are not limited to, the following:  handbags, book bags, backpacks, purses, food and beverages of any kind, tobacco products, personal grooming items (make up, hair brush or comb, lip or hand lotions, etc.), umbrellas, strollers, any pointed objects (pens, knitting needles, etc.), aerosol containers, cameras, video recorders or any type of recording device, radios, guns, ammunition, fireworks, electric stun guns, mace, martial arts weapons/devices, or knives of any size.

No packages of any type will be allowed; this includes large or small shopping bags, or recent purchases.  All necessary medications will be identified and will remain in the custody of an adult chaperone for the entire tour.  All visitors are required to enter through a metal detector.  The Mint is wheelchair accessible.

Parking and Restaurants

The Mint does not provide parking.  There are no restaurants on the premises.

The Denver Mint


Currently public tours at the Denver Mint facility will be open to students and youth groups (grades 1 through 12), and organized military and veteran groups.  Guided tours are conducted from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The Mint is closed on weekends and all legal holidays.

Mint Gift Shop

Open Mon-Fri from 9:00am to 3:30PM.  The store is located at 333 West Colfax in the Tremont Center across the street from the mint.  The gift shop offers exciting souvenirs and coin and money-related gifts for the entire family, from traditional Mint numismatic coin collectibles to clothing, toys, games and accessories.

Two miles East of I-25 on Colfax Avenue between Delaware and Cherokee Streets.  School groups enter on Cherokee Street, on the east side of the building.

Speakers Bureau

Additionally, the Denver Mint is able to provide speakers at Denver area schools and meeting locations to address topics ranging from general Mint information to specific areas of interest.  The program is free and offered during normal business hours, other times may be arranged depending on time and location.
