New NPL SitesThe National Priorities List is updated periodically, as mandated by CERCLA, (CERCLA Overview). EPA publishes the list of NPL sites in the Federal Register. The current update, September 23, 2004, proposes the addition of 14 sites and adds two sites to the NPL. The previous update, August 13, 2004, proposed the addition of the Atlantic Fleet Weapons Training Area site to the NPL. Site-specific information, including lists of site deletions, partial deletions, and construction completions, are accessed from the NPL Site Status Information page. The Superfund program publishes documents with each rulemaking adding or proposing sites to the National Priorities List (NPL). Notification and listing of the sites are published in the Federal Register. Two other documents, the "Descriptions" document and the "Auxiliary" document, provide more detailed information about the sites and the current status of the NPL. New Proposed NPL Sites and New Final NPL Sites provide links to site narratives, Federal Register notices, and complete lists of final and proposed sites. Depending on the action being taken by EPA, the Federal Register notice describes either the addition of sites to the NPL (final rule) or the proposal to add sites to the NPL (proposed rule). Notices for both actions provide a list of sites; background information about the NPL process, including information about the Superfund rules; and other site actions. The proposed rule notice also provides information about submitting comments on the sites proposed. Comments received on previously proposed sites are included, with the Agency's response, in a support document that accompanies final listings.
