Nicholas Burns, of Massachusetts, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, to be United States Permanent Representative on the Council of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, with the rank and status of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, vice Alexander R. Vershbow.
Edward William Gnehm, Jr., of Georgia, a Career Member of the
Senior Foreign Service, Class of Career Minister, to be Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to
the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Jeffrey D. Jarrett, of Pennsylvania, to be Director of the Office
of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, vice Kathleen M.
Karpan.
Robert S. Mueller, III, of California, to be Director of the
Federal Bureau of Investigation for the term of ten years, vice Louis
J. Freeh, resigned.
