Calendar of Daily Health Tips exit EPA

As co-chair of the President's Task Force on Environmental Health Risks and Safety Risks to Children, I am pleased to announce that during the month of October the White House and dozens of federal agencies will join together to help our nation discover the rewards of children's health exit EPA. To help American families discover the rewards of protecting children's health, the Task Force is taking steps to educate parents and children on topics vital to children's health. These action steps – one for each day of the month – range from disease and injury prevention to environmental safety to school health. Taking these steps can create a healthier US exit EPA.

Children's environmental health is a priority of President Bush's Administration. The quality of our air, water, and land has a direct effect on the health of our families, and especially our children. We all recognize that children are a unique population that requires special attention.

With help from many partners, EPA has taken great strides to protect children where they live, learn, and play, including:

• Reducing emissions of diesel pollutants from trucks and buses to help prevent asthma attacks;

• Launching a comprehensive schools initiative to create healthier learning environments for our children;

• Launching the Clear Skies Initiative, a mandatory program that will reduce and cap emissions of nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and mercury from electrical power generation to help improve children's health; and

• Establishing Centers for Children's Environmental Health and Disease Prevention Research in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services to further scientific understanding of the link between children's health and the environment.

During October, we will celebrate Children's Health Month and highlight many of our activities to protect children's health. Please visit this site often to learn more about Children's Health Month activities.
