EPIDEMIOLOGY & GENETICS RESEARCH PROGRAM
DIVISION OF CANCER CONTROL AND POPULATION SCIENCES

The Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences is seeking a visionary, experienced senior scientist to lead the National Cancer Institute's extramural program in cancer epidemiology and genetics. Candidates should be recognized national experts in epidemiology with demonstrated leadership in the development and management of large, diverse interdisciplinary research programs. The Associate Director plays a vital role in the success of a complex research program that is central to the NCI mission and has substantial international visibility.

The Epidemiology and Genetics Research Program (EGRP) is one of four major programs within the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences. The Program currently is comprised of two branches, the Analytic Epidemiology and the Clinical and Genetic Epidemiology Research Branches, with a staff of 28. The Program encompasses research on genetic, molecular, infectious, and environmental epidemiology. Currently, there are nearly 375 grants within the Program and over $160 million in extramural support.

The DCCPS Associate Director for EGRP is responsible for planning, directing and managing the NCI's extramural epidemiology research programs. The Associate Director is the chief spokesperson for extramural epidemiological research both within the NCI and in communicating with diverse groups and individuals outside the NCI. He/she provides scientific and administrative leadership for the Program and leads the development of major research initiatives as well as their coordination with other NCI divisions and DHHS agencies. These activities are implemented through extramural grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, collaborative projects and other National Cancer Program components.

Successful candidates will have medical and/or doctoral level training, sound research experience, and an extensive record of peer-reviewed publications. They should have the ability to interact with diverse constituencies and demonstrate vision, innovation and creativity in their approach to the management of a dynamic research program. The ability to work well in interdisciplinary settings is essential.
